For four days in September 2014 Tom was one of 800 delegates at the 23rd biennial conference of IAVE – the International Association of Voluntary Effort, in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. IAVE exists to promote, strengthen and celebrate the development of volunteering worldwide. Following on from the London conference of 2012, it was an excellent event with delegates from 40 countries sharing experiences and debating the challenges and opportunities facing volunteering in the future.
Here’s the Conference web site.
Tom was a guest speaker at one of the breakout sessions and he had an audience of over 60 people to discuss ‘SMEs as a resource for volunteering’. He shared the stage with Jeff Hoffman from Long Beach, California, who advises the Disney Corporation amongst others on CSR and philanthropic issues and also advised the UK government on their Big Society policy.
Here’s Tom’s speech from the conference.
